Oh Se-Mi
Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate self-esteem and change in status of occupationally injured workers using panel data of worker`s compensation insurance. The results revealed that the probability of return-to-work or job retention was significantly affected by gender, age, marital status, ratings of disability, employment status, union membership status, and occupation type. Secondly, the labors, who found another job because they could not return to previous job, had worse employment status and environment than pre-injury workplace. Third, the self-esteem of occupationally injured workers was affected by whether they work or not. Finally, a propensity score matching approach was used to compare self-esteem of workers with non-workers, and the result showed that the self-esteem of workers were higher than non-workers. Practical implications and policy proposal were suggested for each type of economic activity status of occupationally injured workers.
